About Us: Vineyard
Touring Opera Company
Vineyard Touring Opera Co. is a non-profit, charitable
501(c)3
corporation established to bring great opera to local communities, while
providing performance opportunities for local singers.
Opportunity - Six or more performances
of each production in several Southern California locations provide
opportunities for numerous local singers, including professional singers
wishing to expand their repertory; developing singers building their
craft; and amateurs dedicated to singing great music. |
Accessibility - Under the banner, “opera
per tutti” (opera for everyone), VTO is committed to affordable pricing,
starting at $5 for students and seniors or $10 general admission. |
Intimacy - Performances in
neighborhood venues offering audiences a close-up experience of fully-staged
music drama, with simultaneous English translation projected above the
stage. |
Innovation - Such programs as 2012’s
“Imposters of Opera” and 2013’s “From Script to Score” offer
a fresh view of the masterworks for experienced opera lovers and a stepping-stone
for first-time opera audiences.
Commission - An original
opera based on historical events in Los Angeles has been commissioned
from composer L.C. Harnsberger and is scheduled to premiere in multiple
venues in 2014. |
Mentoring - Double-casting not only
doubles the number of opportunities available, but wherever possible,
developing singers are matched with more experienced artists so they
can benefit from sharing the role. |
Orchestra - VTO engages first-rate
local musicians to comprise the orchestra, and offers opportunities
to guest conductors. |
Outreach - Where possible, VTO arranges
for singers to perform in care facilities or other community organizations. |
Networking - Beginning with
open casting auditions, VTO spearheaded the creation of the Southern California Opera Network, an association of local opera
companies sharing resources for mutual support. |
Scholarship - The Douglas Acker Memorial
Scholarship, established in memory of VTO’s Co-Founder, provides financial
support for singers undertaking travel to auditions, special training,
or other career-building activities. |
We invite your
participation as a performer, contributor or volunteer!
